Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a mandatory requirement for all statutory auditors, in accordance with the legislation in force and the international standards of the profession.

The CPD programme aims to ensure the continuous updating of professional knowledge, skills and competences, guaranteeing that statutory auditors practise the profession in line with the latest legal, professional and technological developments.

Key requirements

Mandatory qualificationStatutory auditors are required to complete no fewer than 40 hours of continuing professional development during each calendar year.
Condition for annual registrationMeeting the CPD requirements is one of the conditions for the annual registration of a statutory auditor in the Public Register, in accordance with the legislation in force.
Training programmesIEKA organises and coordinates the annual Continuing Professional Development programme, which includes training courses, seminars and professional activities in various fields of auditing, accounting, ethics, legislation and other professional developments.

Qualification organised by other institutions

Statutory auditors may follow CPD programmes organised by other institutions recognised by IEKA.

In such cases, the statutory auditor must:

  • to notify IEKA in writing no later than two weeks before the course begins;
  • to provide information on the organiser, the programme, the lecturers, the venue and the training schedule;
  • to submit to IEKA the attendance certificate and the relevant documentation within 30 days of the end of the activity.

Recognition of CPD hours

The Governing Council may also recognise other professional activities as Continuing Professional Development hours, in accordance with the regulation in force, such as:

  • participation in national or international professional conferences;
  • publication of technical or professional articles;
  • participation in programmes organised by higher education institutions, professional organisations or audit firms recognised by IEKA.
